The following two illustrations are for a 'pulp fiction' project which I found particularly fun to do. We start by designing two characters that would sit well in the pages of a 1930s pulp magazine.
First up = MESMERELDA, MASTER OF MEN!! (a sexy hypnotist who uses her powers of persuasion for evil)
and also THE MOSQUITO! (Italian millionaire playboy by day, ineffectual, vain superhero by later in the day.)
The following are studies based around compositions using a dark foreground to highlight a light midground. More very fun stuff from my landscape classes. But more importantly, myself and Ed Brisson, man of steel, have been nominated in the OUTSTANDING CANADIAN WEBCOMIC CREATOR/CREATIVE TEAM Category for Skimming the Till and Catching Uphttp://www.murderbookcomic.com/
One of the classes I have this semester is based entirely around the landscape/environment, form the more traditional style watercolor paintings to more narrative, personal environments. These paintings here are studies done of my neighbourhood here in Calgary.
And here's a set of tonal studies, based around hunting giant ground sloths in prehistoric alaska.
Well, after a very nice, relaxing little holiday, it's back to the grindstone - which means more work to put up on this blog! Above are a couple of inkwash tests for my slow-moving 'dead lands' project - and below is a cover design for my "Blood Group" comic. I've got high hopes for 2011 - and I think she'll do good.
Above: A 'personal map/flowchart detailing the process of making "Jan's Atomic Heart". Best viewed at original size on flickr. Below: A silly video about an imp.
These are a bunch of "Blood Group" pages I've been working on for a school project. There are a bunch more, but I'll be keeping the rest under wraps for the next little while.
Here's a short comic that I did earlier in the school year. It's really more of an illustrated idea - what kind of lifestyle will humans lead in the near (geologically speaking) future? How will we interact with our environment, and the creatures that share it with us?
